Tony Snow: The new Defender of the Propoganda Machine

April 27th, 2006

Most of us now know that Scott McClellan, the beleaguered White House mouthpiece, has resigned. For what reason we don’t know yet, but it’s safe to say that for most people, lying for a living takes a hard toll on one’s soul. Maybe now that he’s a free man he will write a book about his experience being the public question-dodger. One can only hope that he’ll come clean about everything, like most who have left the administration… unless, of course, he gets arrested for a crime or ethics violation, which seems common among this new breed of Republicans.

Enter Tony Snow. Yes, Bush doesn’t surprise anyone by choosing a commentator from a Republican-backed propaganda network as its new press secretary. Who else to continue to block the truth from the news media than someone who has spent a career spewing everything but the truth?

To be fair, Bush acknowledged that Snow has been somewhat critical of him lately but come on… All Snow was angry about was Bush’s apparent lack of ferocity in crushing any and all opposition and dissent. Snow and Bush are lock and step when it comes to the talking points and don’t believe that anything will change for the better with respect to press conferences. In fact, I bet you will find that it will be exponentially more difficult to get real, relevant truths from the White House from now on.

Who knows, maybe now we’ll see 24-hour coverage of the situation in Aruba and daily updates of American Idol contestant profiles. I have a feeling that, come election day (2006 mid term), Fox will schedule an American Idol marathon on TV which will have the expected effect of keeping millions of voters home instead of out at the polls.
